What a turnout at the Annual WTRC Social! What an event! Seeing friends and family interacting as a running community was the best part of the evening. THANK YOU WTRC members for letting WTRC be a part of your journey. Whether your goal is to beat your previous time, or if you have a little friendly competition with your friends and family – Thank you for allowing WTRC to be a part of that special moment.
HUGE SHOUT OUT to Wendy for spearheading the Social for the 5th year in a row and Shannon for MC’ing for the 5th year in a row also. Another SHOUT OUT to Cody & Dr. Autumn Lass for overseeing all of the awards – Challenge Series, 66 Milers, Trailblazers and VOY, Presidential and Service Awards. No matter our role, big or small, the Social is about recognizing the members and their efforts.
As I mentioned in my overview, the club is growing and that’s exciting. 2017 was a great time to be a part of the WTRC. It’s an exciting time to be a part of WTRC. In 2018 the Board will evaluate every race making sure that the race operates as efficient as possible and most importantly, making sure our runners are safe on the course and making sure that we provide the best race experience for current members and visitors who drop in at our monthly races. The Board is excited to make changes operationally to meet the growth.
During a race, I encourage you to beat your previous time or beat the person next to you but at the same time, I encourage you to thank LPD, first responders, and our volunteers. The club would not function as smooth as it does if it were not for our volunteers. Some volunteers show up early to help setup and run the race. Some volunteers race and help with the clean-up. As VP of Ops, I challenge you to be more aware of the volunteers at each race. Remember, this is OUR club. This is OUR community. Let’s choose to make the best out of every race.
If you have any questions, or concerns, please reach out to me. I would love to have a conversation over a cup of coffee (or tea) on how we can make OUR club the best!
Once again, thank you for allowing us to be a part of your journey.

Vice President of Operations
Please help us make our events safer than “safe enough”.
The WTRC members enjoyed a fun and award filled night at our Annual Social on Friday, January 20th at the Science Spectrum. With our favorite emcee Shannon, a wonderful slide show, 2016 awards, and yummy food from Danny’s Catering, as well as potluck desserts from our fabulous members, it was a night we could all enjoy in our street duds and standing still for a change! This event, like all of WTRC’s activities was put together by our awesome volunteers who make planning and orchestrating this event a delight. Please visit our website’s Galleries page for pictures from the social taken by our wonderful photographers, Suzan and David. We were pleased so many members and their families could join us. Looking forward to next year, indeed!
This past May I, along with board Secretary Wendy Anderson had the pleasure of representing the WTRC at the RRCA National Convention in Albuquerque, NM.
Thanks to the close proximity, this was the first convention WTRC was able to attend in many years. The conference gave us the opportunity to attend some great seminars, learn about RRCA programs, and meet national and state RRCA representatives. I also had the chance to meet Meb Keflezighi, who was honored as the RRCA Male Runner of the Year. Besides coming away with a lot of ideas, the best part of the conference was meeting other club representatives from across the country. In speaking with these reps I learned that there are numerous ways to operate a running club, but that each club shares the same purpose – to foster running in our community and promote its benefits. It was really inspiring to see other board members who like us, were looking for ways to improve their clubs.
While the accents in the rooms varied, this united mindset really made the conference special. Overall, I came away from the conference with a lot of ideas on how we could make our club even better and safer. Hopefully, we’ll be able to implement some of these ideas and continue to improve as a club.
Happy Running,
Josh Leyva & the WTRC 2013 Board
